In 1989 Dederick Ward retired from University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and headed west to follow his passion and paint full time in his new Anacortes studio. The early paintings draw on Ward’s geological background, the internal and external landscapes of his adopted Washington State. Next was a long period of abstracted landscape and many plein air works executed in the field with fellow artists. The mountains, rivers, wetlands and agriculture were his passion and his subject matter.
Currently his paintings are even more abstract; his gaze upwards rather than out. Northwest skies, mists and light have subdued his palette and line to a gauzy, rather mysterious surface.
Also showing are oils by Brooke Borcherding, Damon Brown, Matt Dollahite and Melissa Jander. Please join us and meet our artists!
Reception Friday, March 3, 6-9pm.
